Dice Words

Dice Words is a fast simultaneous word game for 2–4 players where everyone gets seven letter dice, two minutes, and up to two rerolls to make the best word they can. The catch is in the middle of the table: four shared Ice Cube dice show the target letters for the round. Longer words are useful, but working those target letters into your answer multiplies its value, so the impressive seven-letter word in front of you may not actually be the best thing you can spell.

Everyone rolls and works at the same time, which keeps Dice Words moving. There is no waiting while one person studies a rack of letters.

Your first roll gives you a problem, your rerolls give you two chances to fix it, and the shared target letters keep players from simply searching for the longest familiar word every round.

How the Game Works

At the beginning of a round, roll the four blue Ice Cube dice to establish the target letters, then flip the two-minute timer. Everyone rolls their personal set of seven Drink dice and starts building a word.

You may reroll any number of your dice up to twice before time expires. Your word scores from its letters, the number of target letters it matches, and bonuses for longer words. That makes a shorter word using several Ice Cube letters potentially more valuable than a longer word that ignores them.

The included Sugar Cube variant helps the player currently trailing by adding an extra die on the following round, and optional rules can make the game friendlier for younger word builders.
