JumbleJack

JumbleJack is a 4–8 player pirate deduction party game built around a wonderfully unsettling centerpiece: a cursed doll whose Hat, Hook, Cape, and Sword can be changed to match one of the secret pirates at the table. Everyone knows pieces of everyone else's identity, accusations fly openly, and the person currently holding JumbleJack is temporarily safe. Your job is to learn enough about the crew to point the curse somewhere else without revealing so much that the doll eventually comes back dressed exactly like you.

The Doll Is Fine. Probably. Pass It to Someone Else.

Every pirate begins with a hidden identity defined by a unique combination of four accessories. Nobody starts with the complete picture of everyone at the table, so the group has to build that information collectively through accusations, revealed clues, memory, and a suspicious amount of pointing.

The delicious part is that information is useful to everybody. When another player reveals something about their identity, you learn from it too. Of course, everybody else is learning whenever you do the same thing.

And throughout all of this, there is a physical doll being dressed to resemble one of you. Very reassuring.

How the Game Works

Each player receives a secret pirate identity determined by a combination of Hat, Hook, Cape, and Sword. The player holding the JumbleJack Doll cannot be accused, giving possession of the cursed object the one benefit cursed objects traditionally lack.

Players discuss what they know and eventually chant “JUM... BLE... JACK!” before simultaneously pointing to determine which pirate will face the next ritual. The chosen player receives the Doll, and the previous holder may add or remove an accessory before passing it.

The target must reveal the information required by the ritual truthfully, gradually giving the table more evidence about their hidden combination. Players can misdirect through discussion and interpretation, but they cannot simply lie about information the game requires them to reveal.

If JumbleJack's four accessories exactly match a player's secret identity, that pirate is cursed. If nobody is caught before the final ritual, the ending becomes one last all-or-nothing deduction.
