Last Night on Earth: The Zombie Game is a deliberately cinematic 2–6 player horror game that pits a small group of human survivors against waves of player-controlled zombies. The Heroes search buildings, find weapons, and scramble to complete scenario objectives while the Zombie side keeps spawning more bodies onto a modular small-town map. It is messy, dice-driven, highly interactive, and much more interested in creating a good zombie movie at the table than in making every fight predictable.
The Heroes Have Shotguns. The Zombies Have Time.
The asymmetry is straightforward and effective. Four Heroes are individually capable and have special abilities, but losing even one at the wrong moment can wreck the plan. Zombies are slower and less impressive one at a time, but the Zombie player has plenty of them and usually does not mind trading a few bodies to close off an escape route.
The scenarios are important because they give that fight a purpose. Heroes might need to escape in a truck, defend a location, destroy spawning pits, or simply survive until morning. The map and rules stay recognizable while the actual story of the game changes.
How the Game Works
Each round contains a Zombie Turn followed by a Hero Turn. Zombies move, attack, play cards, and potentially spawn new undead. Each Hero then gets to move or search and can attack, with cards and character abilities providing weapons, events, and other advantages.
The town is built from modular outer boards around a central board, so useful buildings and routes appear in different places from game to game.
Combat uses dice and is intentionally swingy. A well-equipped Hero can still have a very bad night, while a Zombie that looked harmless can suddenly become the problem everybody has to deal with.
The scenario ends when one side completes its objective or the Sun Track reaches the relevant limit.
Why You’ll Love It
- The Hero and Zombie sides have completely different strengths and priorities.
- Scenarios change what the players are actually trying to accomplish.
- The modular town keeps routes, searches, and chokepoints from becoming fixed.
- Eight Heroes provide a good mix of classic horror-movie personalities and powers.
- Dice and event cards create the sort of improbable reversals that fit the theme perfectly.
