Sandcastles is a breezy 2–6 player drafting and tile-placement game about turning fifteen carefully chosen tiles into the most impressive castle on the beach. Build within your own 5×5 space, connect colorful starfish, line up windows, collect shells, shovels, and buckets, and cap everything with sky tiles full of increasingly valuable birds. The rules are light, but every tile you pass becomes somebody else's opportunity, making a relaxing day at the beach surprisingly capable of producing the sentence, “I cannot believe you took my window.”

Just One More Tile Before the Tide Comes In

Your castle begins with a single entrance and a lot of empty beach. Fifteen rounds later, it has become a peculiar architectural statement shaped by every little gamble you made along the way.

The drafting system gives those decisions teeth. When a tile appears, you can take it or pass and hope the next reveal fits your plan better. Once you pass, however, that tile is gone to another player. Waiting can find you the perfect starfish or sky tile. It can also leave you staring at the one piece nobody else wanted.

How the Game Works

Each player starts with a Starter Tile at the bottom of an imaginary 5×5 grid. Over 15 rounds, players draft one new tile at a time and add it to their growing sandcastle while obeying the placement restrictions of the grid.

The active draft reveals tiles progressively. When offered a tile, you must decide whether it is good enough to claim now or whether to pass it along and wait for another option. That push-your-luck choice is important because several different scoring systems are competing for the same limited spaces.

Matching-color starfish reward orthogonal connections. Windows score according to how completely you develop their rows. Birds appear on sky tiles and become increasingly valuable as you collect more of them. Shells, shovels, and buckets provide direct points plus majority bonuses, while completing sets of colors and sky tiles offers additional rewards.

After the fifteenth round, finish resolving your castle's sky and total every scoring category. The highest-scoring beach architect wins.
